The Koala Counter app has been developed for the Great Koala Count 2 project. This project is being run in South Australia and involves members of the public using the app to record koalas that they see on one weekend. The koala counting will occur for two days in 2016, Saturday November 26 and Sunday November 27.

This app has been carefully designed to collect the information required to help our research team to understand the koala populations in South Australia. The app is designed to be turned on when participants start looking for koalas and turned off when participants have finished looking for koalas. When a koala is found, the app user can simply press a button to record the location. This process records where people walk while they are searching for koalas, as well as helping people to easily record the koalas that they find. Both of these types of information are invaluable, as they will help the researchers to understand where koalas are plus where koalas are not, which are equally important when trying to understand a koala population.

This app has been developed by the Discovery Circle, an initiative of the University of South Australia. For more information about the project, project partners and the research team, please visit: http://www.discoverycircle.org.au/

Note that this app uses GPS to provide your location when recording observations, and this can drain your battery more quickly than normal. So please ensure you charge your phone before going out spotting Koalas! Also please turn off "Auto-lock" on your device, as this will interfere with the GPS functioning for the app. Thanks!

By using this app and participating in the Great Koala Count 2 you are agreeing to the Terms of Participation, available at: http://www.discoverycircle.org.au/projects/koala/terms-of-participation/
